Joanna’s silk chiffon and chantilly lace wedding dress with silk covered buttons.
Joanna came to me knowing exactly what she wanted, a combination of a top half from one dress and the skirt from another. When she walked into the studio she saw a skirt on the mannequin that I was making for another dress and that was exactly what she wanted. I showed her a few different fabric options for the skirt, chiffon, georgette, mousline, and we rummaged through my lace sample folders to pick out the kind of lace she liked, so I’d have an idea when fabric sourcing. She was definitely more drawn toward the Chantilly laces so I knew what I was dealing with. The only deliberation was whether to go for a delicate lace up back or buttons. In the end the buttons won out. I think they look gorgeous and finish it off nicely.
Finding a gorgeous Chantilly lace to go with the chiffon that she’d already picked out in her first meeting wasn’t hard and so the dress came together nicely. We built in a supportive sweetheart bodice and used a nice cool bamboo lining.
Kind words from Jo:
“Thank you so much, it was so beautiful and the fabric was amazing. I felt so comfortable and myself in it which made dressing up and standing in front of a few hundred people far more enjoyable. You did such a wonderful job, so many compliments for it.”
