Ellie’s elegant wedding dress with beaded top and full, floaty silk skirt.
Ellie brought quite a few ideas to the table. She was getting married in Italy and so wanted something light and floaty that would keep her cool on her wedding day. She’d seen a few things that she really loved and couldn’t work out whether she could have them all in one dress. We sat down together and we pulled out some of the key design elements that she liked from each of her inspiration images.
I drew up some designs based on what we had talked about with a few different top options and a couple of different skirt options. One with a full skirt and one with more of a fitted fishtail skirt, but both with a split.
In the end she went with the full skirt and as we started looking for fabrics for the top she said she wanted something with a bit of sparkle and maybe a bit of a soft mocha or gold colour, so I scoured the treasure troves in the Berwick Street Fabric shops and found several suggestions that would have worked:
In the end Ellie chose an Ivory iridescent beaded silk fabric with a 1920’s esque loopy pattern on it, which draped perfectly to produce the slouchy top she wanted.
Finished off with a waistband with a droopy bow at the back this dress couldn’t have suited her more.
